Adventure proposals and elopements don't just happen, they're planned.
When you're proposing or eloping on a mountain or wilderness setting, success depends on more than just a beautiful location. Light, weather, terrain, timing, crowd flow, and safety all play a role in shaping the experience.
I'm Nicole, an Upstate New York photographer focusing on planning-driven adventure proposals and intimate elopements, with a growing emphasis on locations like the Adirondacks, Catskills, or anywhere a couple finds adventurous.
In addition to my photography work, I hold a doctorate in emergency management, am an urgent care Physician Assistant (PA), and maintain Advanced Wilderness Life Support (AWLS) certification. This background naturally informs how I plan, scout, and guide outdoor experiences, especially in unpredictable environments. It also informs how I approach preparedness in outdoor settings. I plan conservatively, pay attention to environmental conditions, and carry appropriate emergency supplies for remote locations.
While my role is always as a photographer, not a medical provider, that training shapes how I assess situations, prepare, anticipate challenges, and make thoughtful decisions that keep experiences calm and well-managed.
Beyond my professional background, I spend a significant time hiking throughout Upstate New York and beyond. Being regularly on trails in different seasons and conditions gives me practical familiarity with terrain, pacing, and how outdoor spaces actually function when people are moving through them.
That lived experience helps inform realistic planning, from choosing accessible locations to understanding when to pause, reroute, or adjust without disrupting the moment.
My elopement experience includes intimate ceremonies and small weddings, and I am intentionally expanding into adventure-based proposals and elopements, bringing a scouting-first, risk-aware, prepared, and detail-oriented approach into more remote and elevated locations.

My Planning Process
Before ever lifting a camera, I focus on preparation.
Location & Terrain Scouting
I help couples choose locations that balance visual impact, accessibility,
crowd patterns, and realistic physical demands. Not every meaningful adventure requires a long or technical hike, and part of my role is helping couples choose locations that feel exciting without feeling overwhelming.
Trail Conditions & Route Awareness
When working in outdoor and wilderness settings, I plan with trail conditions in mind. I regularly use tools like AllTrails to review elevation gain, distance, recent trail reports, seasonal conditions, terrain, and access considerations.
Light, Timing, & Environmental Factors
Using tools like the PhotoPills app (see images below) alongside real-world scouting, I plan for:
- Sun direction and shadow patterns
- Time of day with the least disruption
- Weather contingencies and seasonal considerations
Adventure Proposals:
Stealth, Positioning, & Situational Awareness
For surprise proposals, I blend into the environment, often appearing as just another hiker or bystander, while positioning myself for clean sightlines and awareness of surroundings.
My background in emergency management and clinical care means I naturally think ahead: footing, spacing, weather shifts, and exit options are always considered.
After the Proposal: Letting the Moment Unfold
Once the proposal happens, the pressure is off, and that's when the best images often appear.
I guide couples through:

- Gentle and natural movement instead of stiff posing
- Space to breathe, celebrate, and take it all in
Adventure Elopements: A Natural Extension
Many couples drawn to adventure proposals are also drawn to intimate elopements, ceremonies rooted in meaning rather than production.
As I expand my elopement offerings, my goal is to help couples:

- Plan timelines that feel calm and intentional
- Navigate wilderness spaces thoughtfully and responsibly
